Japanese Science Fiction Con's Seiun Nominees Posted

The organizers of Donbura Con L have announced the list of nominees for this year's 42nd Seiun Awards. As of the 50th Japanese National Science Fiction Convention, the Donbura Con L attendees will vote on the Japanese equivalent of the international Hugo Awards. Vying for the Best Media Award are the following titles:

District 9
The Tatami Galaxy (Time Traveller: The Girl Who Leapt Through Time (live-action)
Uchū Inu Sakusen

In the Comic category, the following are nominees:

John Romita, Jr. (artist), Mitsuko Mitsuoka (translator)
Bentoraā Bentoraā
Ryōma Nomura
SF Taishō Special Edition: Banbutsu Riron (Perfect Edition)
Miki Tori

In the Free Entry category, the following are nominees:

  • Hayabusa space probe's return to Earth
  • Confirmation of Ikaros solar sail demonstrator spacecraft's acceleration via solar rays
  • "ROBOTS and the ARTS: Visual Images in the 20th Century Japan" museum exhibition
  • SF Magazine's 50th Anniversary Anthology
  • Live feed of Hayabusa's return by Wakayama University's Institute for Education on Space
  • iPad launch in Japan

In the Long Fiction category, The Tatami Galaxy creator Aqua Planet Chronicle) are among the nominees in the art category.

Donbura Con L will take place in Shizuoka during the September 3-4 weekend. The picked up Seiun Awards last year.
