Sony, Marza Animation Planet to Make Sonic the Hedgehog Movie

CG-animated/live-action hybrid film to include villain character Dr. Eggman

The Hollywood Reporter's Heat Vision blog is reporting on Tuesday that Marza Animation Planet are collaborating to make a hybrid computer-animated and live-action feature film based on the Sonic the Hedgehog video game franchise.

Neal Moritz (Fast & Furious franchise) is producing the film, and Evan Susser and Van Robichaux (both former of the Upright Citizens Brigade sketch comedy troupe) are writing the screenplay. Toby Ascher is serving as executive producer.

The billion-dollar Sonic the Hedgehog franchise has sold more than 140 million video games worldwide. Heat Vision reports that the movie will include the villain character Dr. Eggman.

Marza Animation Planet, a wholly owned Captain Harlock CG-animated film.

The Internet domain names sonicthehedgehog-movie.com, sonicthehedgehog-movie.net, and sonicthehedgehogmovie.net were ed in the United States last December.

A new CG animated series, titled Sonic Boom, will Nintendo 3DS and Wii U game in November. Other American cartoons inspired by the Sonic the Hedgehog video game franchise include the 1993 series Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog and Sonic the Hedgehog. The Sonic Underground animated series first ran from 1999 to 2000.

The original video games have also inspired various anime projects, including the Sonic X television anime series (pictured above right) premiered in Japan from 2003 to 2004.
