Japanese Film Festival Screens Poupelle of Chimney Town, 'Josee, The Tiger and the Fish' Anime Films in Delhi

Festival also screens The Night Beyond the Tricornered Window films

The Japanese Film Festival announced its screening schedule for its Delhi event on Friday. The festival will take place at PVR Select Citywalk, Delhi from March 4-6 and will screen the following films:

Poupelle of Chimney Town (Entotsu-chō no Poupelle) picture book will screen on March 5 at 1:30 p.m. IST.

Eleven Arts licensed the film for North America and describes the film:

Poupelle of Chimney Town is the story of young Lubicchi living among the thick smoke from the chimneys of his isolated town, yearning to see the “stars” —to know the truth —his father always told him about. One Halloween night he meets Poupelle, a man made of garbage, and together they look to the sky as their adventure begins. Spectacularly beautiful, filled with inspiring performances and splendid music and sound effects, and produced at Tokyo's famed Studio 4ºC, Poupelle of Chimney Town brings laughter, tears and joy.

The film opened in Japan in December 2020 and ranked at #4 and earned 322,998,700 ($3.13 million) in its opening weekend.

Studio Josee to Tora to Sakana-tachi) will screen on March 6 at 11:00 a.m. IST.

The film's story centers on the relationship between Tsuneo and Josee. Tsuneo is a university student, and Josee is a young girl who has rarely gone out of the house by herself due to her being unable to walk. The two meet when Tsuneo finds Josee's grandmother taking her out for a morning walk.

The Ramayana: The Legend of Prince Rama (Ramayana - Rama Ouji Densetsu) anime film will screen on March 6 at 4:00 p.m. IST.

In Ayodhya, the royal palace of Kosala kingdom in ancient India, four princes were born to three queens, each of whom grew to great stature. After being banished from the palace for fourteen years due to court intrigue, Prince Rama retreated to the forest with his beautiful wife Sita. Then, Rama, who had vanquished the demons of the forest, invites the wrath of the demon king Ravana, and his wife Sita is kidnapped. Rama goes to rescue Sita with the help of the monkey army. But while fighting the powerful Ravana army, his brother Lakshmana is seriously wounded. The remastered version of the film launched in the 70th anniversary year of India-Japan diplomatic relations.

The anime film premiered in 1992, the 40th anniversary year of India-Japan diplomatic relations. Cartoon Network aired the film on Indian television in subsequent years.
